Vivacious Bollywood actress-cum-Kathak danseuse Nilaanjana will soon be shooting for this costume-drama musical film ‘Aamrapali’. The winsome Nilaanjana who was paired opposite regional heartthrob Prosenjit in Bengali movie ‘Sonar Sansar’, and later acted in brief roles in ‘Right Yaa Wrong’ and ‘Zila Ghaziabad’, is maha-excited with her latest major assignment.
“In ‘Amrapali’ I play a classical dancer Sulekha, a rival-competitor of Amrapali. Known for her beauty and talent, Sulekha is poised to emerge the ‘Nagarvadhu’. There is a fierce dance competition between her and ‘Amrapali’ and the title-role would be played by Jinal Pandya,” enthuses the actress who feels that, her getting this role was a ‘divine coincidence.
“Producer Baldev Singh Bedi had watched my stage performances and was so impressed that he offered me the finest dancer’s role. My over 12 years of intensive Kathak training and riyaaz under my guru Jayantimala and legendary Kathak queen Sitara Devi has helped me in honing my skills. I have performed in many Indian dance festivals with my guru nationwide and in international shows and have won numerous accolades,” reveals Nilaanjana who often performs Kathak on stage even as celeb-singer Anup Jalota recites his chartbuster bhajans.
She justifies, “All Anupji’s songs have such foot-tapping taal and lovely lyrics, that performing the expressive ‘bhaav’ on stage is an honour for me.
Honestly, I enjoy the ecstasy of performing Kathak on stage so much that my secret dream is to showcase it someday at the ‘Oscars’ event,” insists Nilaanjana who is being finalized by noted film director Madhur Bhandarkar for one of his upcoming ambitious bohemian projects.
